Letter from the Publisher

Please allow us to start by expressing our condolences to the family, friends and our family of readers and writers with regard to the loss of our columnist and humorist Jan King. A New York Times best selling author, Jan’s work always left us  smiling at the end of each issue for last many years. Jan passed away August 13, 2018 after a life long career of award-winning and best selling work in the literary and charitable circles. We looked forward to that email every issue to read what she came up with… “She brought Glamour, Life and Brightness to our lives,” said her friend Joanna. She hung the moon.

It’s a changing town. These new luxury buildings and developments are staggering to me. The Boro, the new Monarch building up the street from our offices, and now the new and exciting Mather bringing our 62+ Seniors  a whole new sophisticated option to spend those golden years. Read about it on page 100. We just can’t keep up with what’s going on.  We’ll keep trying.

If your looking for a private school, we have some options for you.  Patricia Hall gives us some choices.  Thanks, Patrica.

Planning a business meeting or special event. Analiese Kreutzer spent some time at the The National Conference Center and we’re impressed!  Farm to Table food, Chef’s Table Dining, tunnels to keep you dry from one event to the next… Thanks, Analiese.

As a child, we loved to go apple picking.  And around here, we have apples to pick.  Linda brings you the choices, facts and festivals close to home.

Wouldn’t you guess, our Travel and Dining Editor Renee went to the “Big Easy” and had a blast.  All we got were t-shirts and a great story.  Hope you enjoy it.

More wine!  That’s the word around around here-and for good reason. Virginia is for Wine Lovers and Linda rules the vine. This year we’re celebrating 400 years of Virginia Wine making.  Started in 1619, look for the release of Special Edition Commemorative wines.

Too cold to cycle?  Cycle indoors at one of the many cycling studios.  Emma Blancovich brings you some options. (I should join one of these studios).

Carole Herrick brings us one more chapter in the The Stalcup Stand and Jess Miller offers a recipe for “slow cooker chickentacos.

Want a “short escape?”  Linda takes them all the time—this time to Delaware’s quaint villages. A short three day jaunt, filled with history and fun.  (Linda, stay home now.)

Welcome to Virginia’s Food Revolution.  Renee Sklarew is on top of the changes. Find out where it’s happening. Thanks, Renee.

Around Town, Faces you’ll recognize, music, theater, and art—just some of what’s going on in the New American City.

Kids are back in school, please drive carefully and watch for more of what’s going on on our web site www.vivatysons.com.
