Prinze George Heads to Sweetlife

By Jordan Yvonne (Guest Writer)

If you’re one of the tens of thousands of music lovers to have attended the Sweetgreen music Festival known as Sweetlife over the past five years at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., you understand what an amazing time the event is. Next Saturday, May 14, Blondie leads an all-star lineup of acts in what is sure to be the most popular one yet.

Also on the musical lineup are the 1975, Halsey, Flume, Grimes, Shamir, DIIV, Eagles of Death Metal, Mac DeMarco and Prinze George.

The Maryland-based Prinze George is comprised of Kenny Grimm (production / instrumental), Naomi Almquist (vocals) and Isabelle De Leon (drums), and the indie rockers quickly made a name for themselves thanks to their breakthrough single, “Victor” and strong follow-ups in “Make Me” and “This Time.”

The band recently spoke with Viva Tysons about its upcoming appearance at the Sweetlife festival.

Q: Preview a bit of what those coming to Sweetlife can expect from your performance?

Prinze George: Our first record is coming out this summer and we will be playing a couple of new tracks at Sweetlife. People can basically expect a combination of new material and songs that are already out. We are very excited to share our music with the DMV!

Q: Why is an event like Sweetlife important to you?

Prinze George: This festival is important to us because Sweet Green is both a responsible company that makes excellent food and a company that originated here at home. Playing the festival this year definitely feels like a natural rite of passage.

Q: Besides playing, what are you looking forward to about the day?

Prinze George: We are very excited to see Blondie and Grimes. It’s pretty cool that two of the heaviest hitters this year are both fabulous female fronted acts. We are a majority female band so that’s what we like to see.

Q: Being from the area, does a festival like this have a special meaning to you?

Prinze George: Absolutely it does. At the end of the day, Sweet Green is a start up from Maryland that is on the rise; just like we are. Maryland is our home, we named our band after Maryland…this place is very much the core of everything we hold near and dear to us.

Q: For those coming out who might not be aware of your music, what would you like them to know about you?

Prinze George: We make electronic pop, but there is a large range to what we can do, especially live. We love to breathe new life into covers, so if people are curious about that they can check out some of the one’s we’ve done on our Youtube channel.
