Wolf Trap Summer Blast Off

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will launch Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts‘ summer season with a program of concert band favorites. A fireworks display will follow the concert.

Alexandria Memorial Day Jazz Festival

The annual event features big band, swing, and contemporary jazz music. Picnics are allowed and food and beverages will also be for sale. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be relocated to the Lee Center’s Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. Admission is free.

Arlington National Cemetery “Flags In”

For more than 60 years, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) has honored America’s fallen heroes by placing American flags at gravesites for service members buried at both Arlington National Cemetery and the U.S. Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery just prior to the Memorial Day weekend. This tradition, known as “Flags in,” has been conducted annually since 1948. Every available soldier in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment participates, placing small American flags at each headstone and at the bottom of each niche row. Within four hours, the soldiers place flags in front of more than 228,000 headstones and at the bottom of about 7,000 niche row.

Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony and Concert

About 5,000 visitors attend the annual remembrance ceremony in the Memorial Amphitheater on Memorial Day, sponsored by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. At 11am, a wreath-laying ceremony and concert will be held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honor of the holiday.

Herndon Memorial Day Observance

A Memorial Day observance, to include the ceremonial Avenue of Flags, will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery at 10 AM.

Memorial Day Tribute At The Women In Military Service for America Memorial

The Women In Military Service for America Memorial, located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery, will hold a ceremony that includes formal military honors, a keynote address, wreath-layings and the Memorial’s signature event, the scattering of rose petals in tribute to departed comrades. Members of the public are invited to join in the personal tribute segment of the program.

Falls Church Memorial Day Parade and Festival

The 2016 Memorial Day Parade and Festival will bring more than 10,000 visitors to City Hall grounds to enjoy the Don Beyer Fun Run, Veterans Ceremony, children’s activities, food, civic and retail vendors, a parade, and more.

ViVa Vienna Memorial Day Festival

The ViVa Vienna Memorial Day Festival is a three-day community celebration in Vienna, Virginia, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Vienna, with food, crafts, music, and carnival rides that raises more than $100,000 for local and international charities. A Memorial Day tribute is held at noon on Monday.
