Takumi, the new restaurant from Kaz Sushi Bistro veteran Jay Yu, opened its doors in Falls Church’s “Tulip Building” 310 S. Washington St. on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Located in-between Smashburger and Meat in a Box, Takumi is the third sushi restaurant in the 2.2-square mile City of Falls Church, joining Koi Koi and Maneki Nekko.
The intimate 30-seat restaurant is open daily for lunch 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and for dinner from 5 – 10 p.m. The restaurant will be closed on Sundays. According to the Falls Church News-Press, Chef Yu says that most menu items – which will focus on nigiri and sashimi.
According to industry friend, Don Rockwell, Chef Yu’s former employer, Chef Kaz Okochi is sending out one different employee a day to help the restaurant get started, and Kaz himself stopped in to wish them well on opening day. After 13 years with DC institution and highly respected Chef Kaz Okochi , Takumi Owner and Chef Jay Yu will surely do well.
