We Will Survive Cancer

On Wednesday, September 9th, the crew at VivaTysons and many locals gathered at Chima Restaurant to support We Will Survive Cancer, whose mission is to support the cause and to help families affected by cancer. . Around 75 people came to the event to enjoy Happy Hour and support WWSCs fundraising efforts by buying raffle tickets. We Will Survive Cancer is a 501(c)3 charity.  Donations are used to provide services and goods to assist the families of cancer patients.  During the Christmas season, we provide dinners, parties, and presents for these families whose resources have been strained to the limit by the expense and hardships imposed by medical treatment for cancer – it is a small step towards reducing the stress of the cancer treatment process for these families.

Additionally, WWSC, at the request of The Umbrella Syndicate, is collecting inspirational stories of cancer patients that will be published in a book – “Don’t Waste My Cancer!”  The title was coined by my daughter-in-law, Michelle Bynum, who was the inspiration of We Will Survive Cancer in 2009.  Michelle was diagnosed with advanced Stage III Breast Cancer in 2005 became an advocate for early detection.  In the 5 1/2 years she lived, she and her family and friends raised over $125,000 for Komen Austin.  In 2009 Michelle was spokesperson for Komen Austin, appeared in Live Strong ads and was interviewed all over Texas.  Michelle was recognized in the Best of DC and was honored around the country for her advocacy.  Michelle “passed the torch,” in 2011, leaving her six year old son and husband, family and a myriad of friends who loved her dearly.
