Spring into a Vienna Community Event

A bevy of community events are blooming in Vienna this month.

Native Plant Sale – April 21

The Community Enhancement Commission calls all plant enthusiasts to check out a large selection of native plants for sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the parking lot of the Vienna Community Center.

All plants are raised and sold by Hill House Garden Nursery, which specializes in high-quality, native plants. Plants include flowering perennials, native shrubs, and small trees. Native plants attract birds, bees, and butterflies, all of which are beneficial to the home landscape. Cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.

Arbor Day – April 27

Join Mayor Laurie DiRocco, Town staff, and Cub Scout Pack 1116 for a ceremonial red bud tree planting to commemorate Arbor Day 2018 at 5 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the W&OD trailhead located on Park Street across from the Vienna Community Center.

Spring Garden Mini Fair – April 28

Nature lovers can stop by Vienna’s Learning and Display Garden, located adjacent to the Vienna Elementary School playground, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 28, to spend an enjoyable and informative morning with other gardeners.

Participate in a plant swap and give-away. At 10 a.m. enjoy a talk and demo about Thomas Jefferson’s garden.  At 11 a.m., learn how to build fences and other structures for critter and winter protection.

Attendees are encouraged to ask the pros for advice about how to properly care for their own gardens. For more information, check the display case by the entrance to the garden. If you have any plants to swap or give away, please bring them.

Taste of Vienna – April 28

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department will serve up the 7th annual Taste of Vienna from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, in the fire station’s parking lot at 400 Center Street S.

The event will feature many Vienna area restaurants and includes a variety of free performances. Proceeds from this event benefit the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. For more information, visit tasteofvienna.com.
