The Dulles Day Plane Pull at Washington Dulles International Airport attracted thousands of visitors for the airport’s annual free open house with a daylong schedule of activities, events and family fun on Sept. 23.
Nearly 100 teams from many segments of the community pulled two jet aircraft with ropes in a friendly competition that originated at Dulles 25 years ago and has raised more than $2 million for Special Olympics Virginia since the event’s inception.
Like always, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority worked to make this community event better and more engaging for all visitors each year.
Views of nearby runways and taxiways provided a unique backdrop for families, aviation enthusiasts and future flyers to discover Dulles and all it has to offer while enjoying food, entertainment and activities that benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

Runway Fun A Sellout for Charity
The annual Washington Airports Task Force Runway Fun attracted 2,500 to run their best for chairty on a hot late September day at Dulles International Airport. The sellout event included 5k and a 10k events, staged on Runway 1 while flights landed on other runways. Runners raced past a parked United Airlines widebody jet.
