The Washington Business Journal reports that Google will be occupying 90,000 square feet in the uniquely shaped 1900 Reston Metro Plaza, located at the Wiehle-Reston Metro stop. The move will double Google’s square footage in Reston, as the company undertakes a nationwide $13 billion expansion.
The announcement represents a major coup for Comstock Holding Cos. Inc, the owners of the 365,000 square foot trapezoid shaped building. Although the building was completed over a year ago, until now Comstock had failed to get more than a single tenant, suffering a major blow when Nestle, who had expressed interest in the building, opted to place its headquarters in Arlington. Now, coupled with Google’s announcement, Comstock is announcing that a Renaissance hotel, topped by 80 luxury condos, will be occupying a massive development undertaken by Comstock adjacent to its 1900 location. Together, and in addition to as of yet undeveloped land, the buildings will make up the Reston Station Promenade.
On top of all this, Biznow reports that Comstock recently acquired 408,000 square feet of real estate across from the Promenade on Dulles Toll Road. This will expand its total ownership of the area around the station to close to 40 acres.
