Disney On Ice Back in DC

Grab your Mickey Mouse ears and head out to the ultimate Disney experience this week as Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove at the Verizon Center, Feb. 10-15.

Audiences will be treated to a lineup of stories from the Disney animated film vault, including such favorites as “Lion King,” “Peter Pan” and “Toy Story.” And of course, a who’s who of princesses will be on hand, including Tiana, Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Mulan and Snow White.

Alice In Wonderland

There’s also a segment on “Alice in Wonderland,” Disney’s 50th animated feature, “Tangled,” featuring Rapunzel and Flynn on skates, and an exploration through the wilds of Africa with Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon as they discover the true meaning of the “Circle of Life.”

Juran “TJ” Yang, portrays young Simba in the production and is thrilled to be a part of this Disney tradition.

“I was a competitive figure skater for about 10 years of my life and decided to go into show skating,” he says. “I found Disney and it was a great step to be a part of amazing shows like this.”

Yang is part of a skating cast of 40 and a crew of another dozen. Sharing the stage with such great skaters and entertaining the crowd are his favorite parts of the job.

“Just seeing the excitement of the audience gives a new perspective on doing shows,” he says. “There’s nothing like it.”

Originally from Saint Paul, Minn., Yang also likes traveling the world with the show and in his three years with the company, he has seen many interesting places around the globe.

For those coming to this year’s Disney on Ice, Yang says it continues the tradition of bringing the best of the best.

“I feel like it’s more of a personal experience than a movie,” he says. “When you come to Disney on Ice, you get to experience it coming to life right in front of you, with your favorite characters right there.”
