The Power of Accountability: Working with a Personal Trainer

It’s January, and that means many people are looking forward to a fresh start in 2019. If you’re like half the population, you are probably looking forward to accomplishing New Years Resolution success. According to Statistic Brain Research Institute, in 2017, 21.4% of the population decided to lose weight and eat healthier in the new year. The average person loses sight of reaching their resolution goal by February, so how can you avoid becoming one of those people? How do you stay on track and get that summer bod you’ve always wanted? The answer: hire a personal trainer.

Working with a personal trainer certainly has its advantages. As a client, you’ll receive exercise recommendations that are specific to your goals, help on form and ensuring you’re performing exercises correctly, and, also guidance on what to eat. However, there’s something else that a personal trainer provides that might be even more important than all of these things: accountability.

Many of those that lose sight of their weight loss and fitness goals do so because they aren’t held accountable. You have a lot of momentum and motivation at first, but it slowly starts to fade. Life happens. It’s cold out, you get sick, you aren’t seeing results fast enough, and before you know it, you’ve given up. Here are some reasons why hiring a personal trainer might help you reach your goals:

When working with a personal trainer, you’re much less likely to skip your workouts.

Once you have committed to someone, you’re more obligated to show up. If you don’t, you’ll have to answer to your trainer! Obviously, you can get this kind of accountability from a good workout partner, but your trainer has a vested interest. Not only do you want to see results, but your results are a direct reflection on your trainer’s skills and expertise. This is their job, their livelihood, and if you succeed, your trainer succeeds.

Spending money is a great motivator.

You pay for your trainer’s knowledge and expertise because you want to reach a personal fitness goal. If money is involved, are you going to slack off? Most likely not! Why pay for something that you don’t plan on taking full advantage of?

Accountability during your workout.

Exercising is tough. It’s tiring. Not only can a trainer make sure your programming is aligned with your fitness goals, but they hold you accountable while you’re working out. There will be no skipped reps when you have a trainer by your side motivating you along the way! They will ensure you do the right exercises, even the tough ones, with the right amount of weight to reach your goals.

If you fall off track, you’ll have to answer for it.

Your trainer will track your progress. If you skip workouts or eat unhealthy foods, they will know. It will show in your results!
